From the moment he put on his mom’s red heels at the age of four and pretended to be Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Joel Calfee has found himself fascinated by the way fashion, media and pop culture intertwine, specifically when examined through a queer lens.
For over five years, Joel has been covering all aspects of pop culture, from his time as a features editor at ROCKET magazine, to his current position as an assistant news and entertainment editor at PureWow. On this site, you will find links to all of his written work.

Past Work
Prior to joining PureWow, Joel spent three years working as a features contributor for the arts and fashion magazine, ROCKET. During that time, he was promoted to features editor, where he oversaw a team of 10 members and, with his co-editor, helped curate all of the written material for the publication.
For two years, he also served as a journalist on the College of William & Mary’s English department newsletter, where he acted as one of the founding contributors.
